We are an experienced and friendly team of Chartered Surveyors
We are approachable, independent, local surveyors. We use our knowledge to protect property purchasers, owners and managers against unforeseen risks and uninformed decisions.
Sussex Surveyors LLP is a partnership formed by three independent Chartered Surveyors with offices in Brighton, Haywards Heath, Eastbourne and Chichester. We’re independent of any other surveying company, financial institution or estate agency so you can be assured of impartial, prompt and professional advice from all of our friendly, qualified staff.

We have strict quality control procedures in place for all of our work so you’re guaranteed the best possible service at all times. All of our surveyors are up-to-date with the Continuing Professional Development requirements of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and we also run a full RICS complaints procedure with the Property Ombudsman should this be required.
We act for many corporate and private clients. Expansion of the firm is always considered including the appointment of additional qualified surveying staff to augment the existing team – our reputation within the industry and with our clients is such that our referral network is our strongest form of new business. Always a good sign!
Sussex Surveyors deal with both residential and commercial properties throughout East and West Sussex and beyond. Recent clients include Brighton Marina; Shoreham Port; The Orchards Shopping Centre, Haywards Heath; Mayo Wynne Baxter Solicitors along with others throughout the UK; as well as Clarion, Southdown, Guinness South, Hanover, Orbit, Moat and Southern Housing Associations.
Our Surveyors
David Aspey
BLE MRICS
David joined from Hamptons in 1994 after reading a degree in Land Economy (Aberdeen University). He formed a successful partnership with Piers Street which culminated in a management buy-out forming Sussex Surveyors LLP in 2002.
One of his specialties is preparing Building Surveys on Listed, historic property including the Royal Pavillon, barn conversions, water towers, a castle, and a watermill amongst others. In addition, he has expertise in the field of lease extensions and leasehold enfranchisement for leaseholder and freeholder.
Piers Street
FRICS
Piers has previous experience dealing with residential and commercial work in offices in London, East Anglia and Sussex and qualified as a Valuer.
In 1978. He is a third generation surveyor and started his surveying life in the family’s London office. He joined the firm in 1997 in Hove. Within Sussex Surveyors he carries out RICS Homebuyer Reports with and without valuations, residential and commercial valuation work for probate, divorce and tax purposes such as Capital Gains and Inheritance Tax and some commercial rent review work.
Tony Pearson
MRICS
Tony joined the partnership in 2015 having worked with the firm as a residential and commercial Valuer for 10 years. In 2008 Tony was Accredited to complete Energy Performance Certificates on Non-Domestic Property and carries out commercial EPC’s throughout the south of England. Tony is also available for Party Wall matters whilst also completing valuation and development appraisals for developers and Housing Associations as well as providing expert witness evidence for solicitors.
Tony is Vice Chair of the Haywards Heath Business Association.
Luke Field
BSc (Hons) MRICS
Luke joined Sussex Surveyors in April 2020, having previously worked for a commercial building surveying practice in Bristol since graduating university in 2016. He became chartered in June 2019 and has experience in providing a wide range of building surveying services for public, private and third sector clients, on commercial, residential and industrial properties.
Luke specialises in Building Surveys, Defect Analysis, Planned Preventative Maintenance Surveys, Schedules of Condition, and Designer and Contract Administration work.
Luke became a Partner of Sussex Surveyors in 2024.
Derry Green
MRICS
Derry joined Sussex Surveyors in January 2018. He started his career in estate agency in 1986 dealing in both residential and commercial sales as well as residential lettings. He qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 1997 and is also a RICS Registered valuer, undertaking Building Surveys, HomeBuyer Surveys and a range of valuation work including mortgage, probate, matrimonial and Help to Buy cases.
Derry has been covering the South Coast from Peacehaven to Hastings and Rye and inland up to Tunbridge Wells for over 20 years.
Kevin Westgate
MRICS
Kevin is a Chartered Building Surveyor that joined the practice in 2017 having previously worked in London for a period in excess of 20 years after beginning his career in the 1990s around Lewes. He became a Chartered Building Surveyor in 2001 whilst at Watts & Partners. To Sussex Surveyors he brings a wide and extensive knowledge of building pathology, defect analysis, and years of experience in contract administration, expert witness, dilapidations, party wall matters, pre-acquisition building surveys and due diligence work.
Alex Fielden
Alex joined Sussex Surveyors in March 2021 following the successful completion of the Sava Diploma in Residential Surveying and Valuation. He has worked within the field of property for around 20 years. Starting in property development with a focus on restoring historic residential buildings, including works with English Heritage. This gave valuable insight into how buildings perform, the defects that arise and how to solve them.
He has also worked within estate agency in both residential sales and lettings. This has given an excellent understanding of the local market and grounding for valuation work.
Alex was elected an Associate of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors at the start of 2021 and is also a RICS Registered Valuer. He undertakes HomeBuyer Reports and a range of valuation work.
James Frooms
James joined Sussex Surveyors in November 2025. He has a background of working in an estate agent while studying building surveying at Brighton university. James graduated in 2014 and went on to work for a corporate building surveying firm to achieve his associate membership for RICS in 2015. James brings along knowledge to carry out residential valuations, homebuyer and building surveys as well as new build snagging defects across the Sussex area.
Alex Shepherd
Alex joined Sussex Surveyors in October 2025, having previously worked for a Chartered Surveyors in Leatherhead specialising in project management and contract administration. He studied at the University of Reading and completed an undergraduate degree in Building Surveying and is currently working towards becoming a Chartered Member of the RICS. Alex’s day-to-day duties include assisting with Level 3 Building Surveys, Schedules of Condition, Contract Administration and Dilapidations.
Joe Taylor
Joe joined Sussex Surveyors in June 2024 with two years of prior experience in the construction industry. He studied at the University of Portsmouth and completed a degree in Building Surveying, and is currently working towards becoming a Chartered Member of the RICS.
Joe’s day-to-day duties include assisting with Building Surveys, HomeBuyer Surveys, Contract Administration work, and Reinstatement Cost Assessments.

Office Coordinator
Kharis is an Office Coordinator, supporting both clients and surveyors with the smooth running of day-to-day office activities. She handles internal and external enquiries by phone and email, assists with booking surveys, and helps keep everything organised behind the scenes.
She is highly detail-oriented and enjoys getting involved in a wide range of tasks, from supporting surveyors’ workloads to helping with last-minute requests. Enthusiastic and keen to help, Kharis brings energy, thoughtfulness and a proactive approach to the team.
Sarah C.
Office Coordinator
Sarah is one of the friendly voices you’ll hear when getting in touch with the office, supporting clients and surveyors as part of her role as Office Coordinator. She manages internal and external enquiries, helps arrange survey bookings, and assists with the smooth day-to-day running of the office.
Calm and well-organised, Sarah enjoys keeping things on track and making sure everyone has what they need. Always happy to step in and help wherever required, she is valued for her reliability, practical mindset, and warm, approachable manner.

Enquiries
Sarah – or “Wardy”, as she’s known in the office – joined Sussex Surveyors in September 2024. She supports both clients and surveyors by managing enquiries, arranging survey bookings and assisting with the day-to-day running of the office.
With a strong background in financial services and customer-facing roles, she is passionate about helping people and seeing tasks through to completion. Her positive attitude, determination and easy-going nature contribute to a supportive and welcoming office environment.
