Sussex Surveyors Rebranding & New Website Launch

Sussex Surveyors Rebranding & New Website Launch

By Tony Pearson

We’re not sure if you’ve noticed, but we’ve recently gone through a rebranding process at Sussex Surveyors. Well, to be honest we’d never really thought about branding and what it meant, but the more it came to light about how a brand can elevate your business, the more we started to take notice…

I regularly watch the BBC show Dragons Den and I started to notice how the Dragons would often say ‘I don’t like your branding, I’m out’ or ‘I love your branding, so I’m going to make you an offer’. I started to think this branding ‘thing’ was looking at in more detail. The first step involved spending the astronomical sum of £4 on a second hand copy of ‘Branding for Dummies’. After reading the introduction, I understood that the key idea of branding is about emphasising what makes you different to your competitors. Straight away I thought – we’re approachable. Clients have often said how they were going to use us over competitors as we were just easier to talk to. We’ve also had lots of positive feedback on how it’s appreciated that we talk to clients about the property as well as supplying a report. This regularly helps readers of our reports put our findings into context.

The second thought I had was that ‘we’re independent’. Surveyors that are part of an estate agency, firm of builders etc. may not have the report reader’s interest at heart; where we do. Finally, I thought we know what we’re doing so we’re ‘knowledgeable’.

With these distinguishing attributes in mind we decided to work with Karen and Richard of xHeight Design and Gary from Pleece & Co. The companies’ worked together and we undertook a marketing and branding workshop which laid the foundations for the project. Karen and Richard then came up with the logo idea that we all loved – first time. It’s really interesting noting how some people see a brick; others a tick; and some see two walls meeting. Karen and Richard also designed the website and Gary’s team built it and we love it. It looks so much more modern, usable and engaging than our old one ever did. We really see the value in going through the whole working process to get the results we wanted. Soon we’ll be embarking on rolling out the marketing strategy too, so watch this space…

You may have also noticed how we launched it during the Coronavirus Lockdown of 2020. We had been working on the project since late 2019 and everything just happened to come together during the lockdown period. We noted our competitors had furloughed a lot of their staff and it seemed were battening down the hatches to take a conservative view of the future. We however, wanted to be proactive at this time and felt it was a great opportunity to show how we’re different – as well as approachable, independent and knowledgeable!
